Action Plan :
7 steps to starting an after-school
Good News Club

Thinking about
a Good News Club?

Please call North County Director Robert Burkley at 760-480-4191 or click to email.
We'll help you get started!

1. Pray
- Start by meeting together regularly to pray for the children in your local public school who need to
... hear about Jesus! Pray for their families. Pray for the principal and teachers.
- Pray that the Lord would call forth committed team members.
- Find out if the school has a Moms In Touch International group and contact them about praying for a
... GNC (click here - then go to "Groups" and click on "Group Locator").
- Enlist prayer support from your church, small groups, Sunday school classes, friends and families.
... Show CEF's 5-minute DVD (contact us for a copy) or send this link in emails:
... http://cefkids.com/gospelintheschools
..........

. 2. Spread the word
- Keep your eyes open for those who would have an interest in reaching the kids in the public schools.
- Let everyone know that you are scouting for helpers. Put an annoucement in your church bulletin.
... Forward this link in emails: http://cefkids.com/gospelintheschools
- Announce an informational meeting, show CEF's 5-minute DVD (contact us for a copy), and answer
... questions. We'll be happy to come and be part of helping to explain the ministry.
- If possible, take a group to visit a school Good News Club in North County.
... (Click here to see the current list of clubs and locations -- call us and we'll help you arrange a visit).

3. Form a team
- How many? Six committed volunteers are recommended. Decide on one person to serve as team
... leader or coordinator.
- Discuss and decide who would like to do what. At least two volunteers should be willing to share the
... task of teaching the Bible lesson. Helpers are needed to take attendance and keep records, lead the
... songs, lead games, teach the memory verse, tell the missionary story, and help with snacks.
- Decide on a day of the week for the club when everyone is available.
- Decide how many six-week segments you would like the club to run.
- Training for volunteers is offered at our free Teachers Forum in two locations in North County
... during GNC season, starting in September. Click here to learn more. We may be able to
... hold a special orientation class for your team.
- Screening of volunteers is required. Each one can start the process when he or she commits to joining
... the team. Forms can be dowloaded at http://cefkids.com/screening.
- Costs: The teaching materials are available from CEF, and a church-sponsored club provides for the cost of
... those ($27-$42 total for each six weeks of the club, depending on options chosen). Additional costs are for
... photocopies of hand-outs to the kids and optional items such as devotional books, snacks, and small incentive
... prizes. The $9 cost for each background screening may be given as a voluntary contribution.

4. Apply to the school district
- CEF takes care of contacting the principal, and all the paperwork and calling to apply for the club. We
... recommend that team members do NOT approach the principal informally about the club.
- A facilities-use application will be submitted with all the dates the club will meet and the time.
- The team and the CEF director will meet with the principal if he or she would like us to.
- We may need to find a teacher at the school willing to let us use his or her classroom.
- CEF provides the liability insurance the school districts require.
- Apply ASAP - the application process can be unpredictable as to length of time, especially in a district
... where we have not yet had clubs.

5. Announce the club
- CEF takes care of getting approval for flyers to be distributed through the school. All districts where we
... have clubs have permitted us to do this, but sometimes it takes time to receive approval. Flyers include
... a parental permission form that each child must bring to the club. Some schools distribute the flyers by email or
... on a website.
- If a church is sponsoring the club, it makes the photocopies of the flyers from a master supplied by
... CEF.
- Flyers are taken to the school office about a week before the club is to start.

6. Plan and prepare for the first day
- Be sure everyone knows his/her assigned tasks.
- Make a schedule and give a copy to each team member (click for a blank schedule or sample).
- Consult our Team Leader’s Handbook for more helpful planning info: http://cefkids.com/handbook.pdf
- Have a dry run!

7. Pray
- Enlist continuing prayer support for the children who will attend the club, their families, and the
... volunteers!
- It's exciting for church members who aren't physically part of the club to hear praise reports and to be
... able to participate and contribute to one of their church's outreaches by interceding in prayer.
- Submit praise reports and prayer requests to your church bulletin and to CEF for our weekly email
... Praise & Prayer bulletin sent to volunteers and friends of GNCs who are praying all over the world! (To
... view it online go to http://cefkids.com/ppb.htm. To receive it by email or submit a prayer request for your club, ...
... click here.)
