Praise & Prayer Bulletin 12.8.08 and Survey
Were you able to take our short survey last week? If so, THANK YOU!
If you missed it or didn't have time, would you be able to take a few moments to fill it out at the bottom of today's bulletin? Thanks!
PRAISE REPORTS
PRAISE the Lord for opening the hearts of children to His truth. At our Rose School Good News Club in Escondido the lesson was about who Jesus is and what He has done for us, based on the transfiguration account from Luke, when Jesus talked with Moses and Elijah of His coming death for us on the cross and the Father spoke from the cloud identifying Jesus as His beloved Son. The whole group was listening in hushed fascination as the Gospel invitation was given through the words of Jesus in John 6:40, "...everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day." One boy asked what the "last day" was, and when Jesus's promise to return and raise believers' bodies from the dead was explained, he couldn't contain a loud and heartfelt, "Jesus is COOL!" Amen!
PRAISE God for bringing girls and boys into His family! Holly Williams, team leader at the Farr School GNC, emails: "Mrs Merritt, our pastor's wife, gave a dramatic explanation of being rescued to explain being saved when she was teaching the Bible verse, Hebrews 7:25. I think that helped greatly the kids' understanding of being saved. In response to giving a salvation invitation at the end of the Bible story, about 5 raised their hands that they had prayed to ask Jesus to save them! Mrs Williams counseled 2 little girls after that who genuinely responded to all questions asked and said that they knew Jesus came in 'because the Bible says so' -- one little girl had come before to be counseled and is in 2nd grade, the other was at club for the first time, could read well and said she did not have a Bible at home (so we'll work on that!). Praise God from whom all blessings flow!"
PRAISE the Lord for a mother from Hope Elementary School in Carlsbad who called to say she would like to organize a GNC at the school. She watched as the Lord brought together the Moms in Touch prayer group at the school, which she leads, and which has been faithfully praying for a GNC. Now that group is trusting God to do the same in gathering a volunteer team for the Good News Club. (Please pray with them that the team would soon be complete and ready to go!)
PRAISE God that our GNC at Glen View School in Escondido, which has been dormant since the 05-06 school year, has been approved and will be starting up again January 15! After the school initially denied our new request for use of facilities, saying no rooms were available, an official at the district office called to say the denial had been overruled and that if we encounter any problems in the future in getting clubs approved we should call her directly!
PRAYER NEEDS
PRAY about an increased climate of resistance we are meeting at some schools. Our application at Foothill Oak in Vista (photo above) was denied at the school level this past week, citing no rooms available after school, and we are currently appealing the denial to the superintendent. Please pray that the Lord would work in this situation, overcome the obstacles, and allow the light of the Gospel to shine at Foothill Oak!
PRAY about our planned Good News Club at Bonsall Elementary starting in January. The district has approved the club to meet, but at the adjacent community center rather than on the school campus. Please pray for the Lord's wisdom in whether we should agree to this compromise (which might lessen the visiblity of and turnout at the club and set a negative precedent for future clubs in the area) or hold firm to our right to access school facilities.
PRAY as our team for the planned GNC at L.R. Green School in Escondido moves forward in faith! The application has been submitted for a hoped-for start date of Jan. 15, even though the team needs two more volunteers. Please pray for God's gracious provision of faithful servants willing to meet the need. Pray for the team as they get ready to bring God's truth to the kids at a school which has never before had a Good News Club.
In the fellowship of our Lord,
