PRAISE the Lord for the first Good News Club meeting ever at Stone Ranch School (Poway district) on Wednesday (photo above)! Team leader Dee Abell (pictured) reports: "We had 31 kids enrolled and several parents attend. We had a great bunch of kids, well behaved and quiet. We have a good turnout of helpers, praise God!"

Team member Inga Hughes helps the kids understand what the memory verse, Exodus 15:2, is all about and that God is our salvation!

More and more dads like Brooks Barnhard (photo above), whose daughter attends Stone Ranch, are joining Good News Club teams!

Above, Dee teaches the Bible lesson on the life of the prophet Elijah. She does double duty, also leading the club at Willow Grove School. There she was blessed by seeing her neighbors' first-grade daughter receive the Lord the first day of club. Then last week she reports: "The little girl came to me to share another token of God's love, not just for her, but me. She said, 'Dee, I was in my room praying and talking to God, and my little brother came and asked me what I was doing. I told him, "I was praying" and then I told him how to pray.' Wasn't that so special? Gets you right there doesn't it?"

PRAISE God for our two other GNCs that opened on Wednesday:

James Dukes (Ramona) Team leader Cathy Goldstein reports: "I was very excited about the turnout on our first day today. Twenty-six kids showed up even though some of the flyers hadn't gone out until yesterday! We have a great group of volunteers and some parent helpers. I'm looking so forward to the next several weeks!"

Mission Meadows (Vista district) Team leader Maureen Slottje emails: "Thank you for all the prayers. It was a great start with 34 kids who were very attentive. It went well with the principal introducing herself and welcoming us. Great spirit, and one of the moms volunteered to help. We had lots of older boys! We had a post-meeting evaluation and all were pleased and challenged to make things go smoother next week. Each volunteer was pleased and looking forward to next week."

PRAISE the Lord for our faithful team at Ada Harris School GNC in Cardiff (photo above), now in its fourth season. Most of this team has been with the club since it began. From left are Carrie Patch (new this season!), Beryl Murphy, Ramona Borders, Gloria Harrison, Nancy & Don Stephenson, and Joyce & Paul Abney. GNC is bringing God's Word to bear on the real lives of kids. Team leader Ramona Borders shares this sobering prayer request:

"Last year we had two 5th grade boys in our group who told that there were gangs on their street. It was evident that even at their young age they were being pressured to join. We encouraged them to be strong and obey the Lord and not join a gang. Also, they were both given Bibles and encouraged to read. One of them later told me that he was reading his Bible every day. This year that boy came back and brought his younger sister. She attends every week and has accepted the Lord. The other boy has not come back this year. A couple of weeks ago the NC Times printed an article about a gang fight at a park in Carlsbad. A youth was shot and killed by a member of his own gang, probably accidentally. The young man killed was the boy's cousin. I am hoping to see him at school and be able to talk with him. Please pray that he will remember the things he learned at GNC and trust the Lord for his life and his safety and not become a gang member. He really is a nice kid. He never did indicate in GNC that he had accepted the Lord."

PRAISE God for His work in the lives and hearts of kids! GNC leader Judy Erickson writes: "I wanted to share a precious happening at Reidy Creek yesterday. In teaching Daniel 1, we touched on a lot of temptations to sin with cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, etc. About three kids came up to me afterward to pray -- one for his mom to be able to stop smoking, and a little tiny girl just to pray for Jesus in her life. Another boy shared that his mom had quit, and I told him to tell her he is proud of her."

PRAISE
the Lord that our application for a Good News Club at Live Oak School in Fallbrook was approved this week by the district. The club is set to start May 6 -- our final new club of the season!

PRAISE God for the news from our club at Laurel School in Oceanside. Pastor Michael Henderson writes: "We had 17 kids at yesterday's Good News Club. We almost doubled in size. Praise God! The kids really seem to be very excited. They are really doing a great job of inviting their friends."

PRAISE
the Lord for churches and individuals who contacted us this week about starting new GNCs in Carmel Valley, Ramona, and Vista, and for a pastor who is interested in getting his church involved in a club at Mission Middle School in Escondido.

PRAYER NEEDS

photo - Discovery school 1

PRAY for THREE Good News Clubs starting this week!:

Beaumont School (Vista) Thursday 2:35-3:35pm
Discovery School (San Marcos, photo above) Friday 3:20-4:35pm
Pioneer School (Escondido) Friday 2:35-3:35pm

Praise God for the volunteers who have joined the teams so kids at these schools can hear the Good News and learn from God's Word! Please pray that the Lord would empower each team member as they bring the love and truth of Jesus onto the campuses. Pray that flyers will reach parents, that parents will enroll their kids, and that kids will be there in droves! Pray for receptive hearts, for God's grace to be poured out, and for changed lives!

PRAY for our training/orientation class being held on Monday for two late-starting clubs, Discovery and Live Oak. Please pray that the Lord would use the time to edify and equip these new volunteer teams to be effective ministers of the Word and to build their unity in His Spirit.

PRAY for our chapter's very critical financial need. This week we found out that due to economic conditions our largest church contributor finds it necessary to end their longtime monthly support. Instead, they plan to take a one-time offering on Mothers' Day weekend. Please pray that the Lord would bless this offering! To learn how you can help meet the need, please click here:

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.   --Mark 10:14-16
