TEACHERS FORUM this week! -- Oct 17 & 19
Isaac, the promised son, was finally born to Sarah and Abraham! Years later when the Lord called on him to sacrifice his child, Abraham obeyed, but told Isaac, "My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering" (Gen. 22:8). During our lesson series, Patriarchs, kids at Good News Club will learn how God has provided another Lamb, His own sinless Son, who was sacrificed for us.
All Good News Club volunteers need to be at our Teachers Forum this week to find out how to build a Bible story like this into a life-changing message from God's Word that kids can understand and respond to!
Join us at 9:00am on Sat, Oct 17 in Escondido or Mon, Oct 19 in Carlsbad (click for details: http://cefkids.com/TeachersForum).
PRAISE REPORTS
PRAISE the Lord for all that kids are learning at Good News Clubs across North County! At Casita Center School in Vista (above), the memory verse is 2 Cor 5:21: "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." After explaining what the verse means and how God wants us to respond, team leader Linda Gonzalez oversees a fun activity to help the kids learn it by heart.
Songs that teach truth are a part of GNC, too. Hand motions go with this one:
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty,
There's nothing my God cannot do!
The mountains are His,
The rivers are His,
The stars are His handiwork, too.
God's love is so great, and I know He loves me,
For He gave His Son for my sin.
Christ died for me,
He rose again,
He's coming back for me, too.
My God is so great, so strong and so mighty,
There's nothing my God cannot do!
At craft time busy hands work to assemble "spaceships" that travel out to explore God's handiwork! Linda sends a praise report for helpers and those who have been praying: "Angela Moore has been a godsend. She helps with registration, songs, memory work and she taught the second lesson (15 children responded to the invitation). Praise God for workers who love him so! Miss Vicky has been a jewel, helpful in so many ways. Thank you, all of you anonymous prayer warriors and co-reapers of the harvest. Our hearts are full of gratitude for your faithful prayers as we see God blessing."
PRAISE God for our dedicated volunteers! Above are Anna Vargas, Susie Covert, and Max Anguiano at the Glen View School GNC in Escondido on Thursday. Anna is a brand-new volunteer helping at Glen View as she prays and seeks helpers to start a new club at Orange Glen School near where she lives (please pray with her!). Susie has been helping at a number of clubs for several seasons, including Glen View and Reidy Creek this year, and she plans to be part of our Rose School club starting Nov. 3. Max is starting to take on the teaching of the memory verse at Glen View, and he's also on the team at our only middle school club, Bear Valley (please pray that the Lord will draw kids to this club!).
PRAYER NEEDS
PRAY for the planned Good News Club at Solana Pacific School in the Solana Beach district (above). The volunteer team is really only able to hold the club on Thursdays, but the school is saying we can only hold it only on Fridays or Wednesdays! Please pray that the Lord would work it out so the club can take place on Thursdays at this school of all 5th and 6th grade students.
PRAY for our outreach at the Escondido Street Faire this Sunday, Oct 18, 10am-6pm on Grand Ave. (between Broadway and Maple, space 572). We'll be inviting kids and parents under our canopy to hear the Good News of Jesus and to sign up for free Mailbox Club Bible lessons. We'll also be giving out tracts and Bibles on CD. Please pray for good weather and that lots of boys and girls will listen and respond to God's message to them!
PRAY with Didi Pressley, leader of the big Good News Club at Miller School in Escondido: "Something that I am specifically praying for is that this generation of kids will grow up to be amazing leaders for Jesus. That there will be a whole generation of kids of all kinds that know Jesus and follow Him. It is amazing to be a part of something bigger that God has in store for His people!"
PRAY for a church in Rancho Bernardo that has decided to sponsor a Good News Club at a local school. Please pray as they seek the Lord's guidance in choosing the right school and building a volunteer team.
PRAY as two GNCs start this week:
North Broadway in Escondido starts Tues., Oct. 13, 2:30-3:30pm
James Dukes in Ramona starts Wed., Oct. 14, 1:00-2:00pm
Pray for God's strength and peace as the volunteers prepare. Pray that parents at the schools will hear about the clubs and want their children to attend. Pray that kids who need to know Jesus will be there! Pray that the Holy Spirit will break through outer distractions and inner obstacles to reach kids' hearts with the truth of God's living word. Pray for transformed lives! Pray that believers will hear new things from the Lord and learn to follow Him more closely.
In the
fellowship of our Lord,
Robert Burkley

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them. --Mark 10:14-16
