PRAISE REPORTS

photo - GNC - Capri info meeting 2009.10.29.1b

PRAISE the Lord for such a big and enthusiastic turnout of parents and kids (above) from Capri School in Encinitas (shown below) at a meeting on Thursday evening to start a brand new Good News Club at the school! In response to the invitation to the meeting one parent emailed, "Thank you so much for setting this wonderful program up at Capri. I think this is exactly what our school needs to help combat the enemy. We cannot wait!" Another wrote, "Excited and looking forward to the launch of this incredible ministry!" The Lord has been at work for some time bringing parents together as a team, and on Thursday they were able to have questions answered, pray together, and get things underway. Please be in prayer for these new volunteers as they plan and organize the club. Pray for a quick and smooth application process. Pray that the Lord would be preparing all the kids at Capri to hear and respond to His Word!

PRAISE God for the invitation to be part of the Festival of Light outreach on Oct. 31 at Carlsbad Community Church, a longtime supporter of CEF of North County. Kids came to play carnival games and win prizes, but also had the opportunity to make gospel bracelets. Above, Ron Rusch tells the message of salvation to kids and their parents while Marilyn Hatch and Marilyn Burkley help with their bracelets. We were blessed to be able to share the gospel with 45 kids and parents, and of those, 13 responded to the Good News (including one adult!). Thirty-one signed up for free Bible lessons by mail (including 2 adults!).

PRAISE the Lord for GNCs that keep on keeping on! The Miller School club in Escondido is now in its 4th season and going strong. The cafeteria is needed to accommodate such a big club (above) -- there were 65 kids on opening day!

The boys and girls separate into smaller groups by grade level, and Judy Earle (above) is teaching one group the Bible memory verse (2 Cor 5:21).

Above, Linda Loudermilk and Diana Gaines help kids with the craft project -- making paper chains with the verse written on the links: "God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

The Juniper School club in Escondido has been going even longer -- this is its 7th season! Above, at last Thursday's club volunteer Willie Nielsen looks on in a photo shot by her niece, fellow team member Missy Conway. Her mom Janet, who leads the club, writes: "We started Oct. 1 with 55 students and increased to 65 the next week. We have continued to have 60 or more each week. The club has shifted to more upper grade children. We are praising the Lord for this strong beginning. Please pray that those who have heard the gospel and not yet responded will return and other new ones, who need the Savior, will come to club.

The Gospel Hand Song

PRAISE
the Lord for this report from leader Holly Williams about the 2nd week at Farr Ave.School GNC in Escondido: "We had Mr and Mrs McClain from the Fundamental Baptist Church missions conference. They showed items from their country, told stories of how God has worked in some of the Brazilians' lives, and talked about the "gospel hand". Each finger stood for a section of the gospel. Mrs McClain told about a boy whom she told that story to. He got saved, and later when he was dying in the hospital he kept holding onto the finger that represented 1 John 5:13 (knowing that he had eternal life in heaven). His mother was by his bedside and watched him and the peace that he had throughout the whole time. He ended up dying as he held onto that finger. His mother then came to the McClains and said that she needed to know that God and that peace. They led her to Christ. Then we gave an invitation to the children at GNC to know Him too. At least 10 kids responded and prayed to receive salvation. Jessica Sun taught them Acts 16:31 as a memory verse, and many of the kids were already trying to say it before they went home!

PRAISE
God for an article about after-school Good News Clubs in our area in the current edition of the "Good News, etc." Christian paper, authored by our own volunteer, Judy Erickson. Pick up a copy at churches or Christian bookstores, or read it online:

Please pray that many will see it and want to get involved!

PRAISE the Lord for all the recent interest in new Good News Clubs!

A father from Del Sur School in the Poway district, who has been following the Lord for just one year, is excited to know about GNCs and called to say he is working towards getting one started at the school -- he has already sent in his volunteer screening forms!

Two volunteers are already on board for a club at Barnett School in Ramona, and a mother at Ramona Community School is actively recruiting a team.

There are three volunteers interested in helping at a new club at Turtleback School in the Poway district.

Please pray that the Lord would guide and provide so that all these clubs could soon be underway.

PRAYER NEEDS

photo - Olive School sign3

PRAY with April Sparks, a teacher at Olive School in Vista, who first called us back in May saying the Lord had been impressing on her the great need for a Good News Club for the kids at her school. The classroom teachers are still on duty for an hour after classes dismiss, so getting a club going means having a group of dedicated volunteers answer the call. Please pray that the Lord would bring together a team of His servants who see the need -- and the eternal blessing it will be -- to reach these kids that He loves so much!

photo - World Day of Prayer

PRAY for the planet! Join CEF workers, volunteers, friends, and supporters from over 150 countries across the globe as they set aside a day to lift up the children, each other, and the needs of the ministry before the throne of God. Please take some time on Wednesday to intercede for:

-International requests: http://cefkids.com/WorldDayOfPrayer09-International.pdf

-USA requests: http://cefkids.com/WorldDayOfPrayer09-USA.pdf

-North County -- please pray over our map of schools: http://cefkids.com/schools0910

PRAY
for the Casita Center School club in Vista. The room the club has been meeting in is not working out because there is not enough space for all the kids without moving furniture, and the teacher doesn't want anything moved. The principal has proposed finding another teacher who will volunteer use of her room, and team leader Linda Gonzalez plans to talk to some teachers on Monday. Please pray that the Lord will provide an adequate place to meet!

PRAY for a request sent by Judy Erickson, leader of the Glen View club in Escondido: "Please pray for a little boy and a big girl at GV who appear to be siblings. They are extremely sad or troubled. Please pray for God to intervene for them both, and bring them true overflowing joy of salvation regardless of their circumstances."

PRAY
for THREE Good News Clubs starting this week:

photo - Rose School banner 2

Rose School in Escondido starts Tues., Nov. 3, 2:30-3:30pm

photo - Mission Middle School banner

Mission Middle School in Escondido starts Wed., Nov. 4, 3:00-4:00pm

photo - Solana Santa Fe banner 2

Solana Santa Fe School
in Rancho Santa Fe starts Thurs., Nov. 5, 2:45-3:45pm. (The school neglected to post the GNC announcement in the weekly email communication to parents as scheduled. They have promised to send out a special email on Monday. Please pray that this would happen and that word of the club will reach parents and kids!)

For all three clubs, please pray that God would draw many kids on opening day. Pray that the volunteers will have the time to prepare and be ready to communicate God's Word. Pray that Christian kids will be encouraged in their faith and be ambassadors for Christ at their schools, inviting their unsaved friends. Pray that the Holy Spirit will reveal God's great love to boys and girls, convict them of their need of a Savior, and lead them to trust in Jesus. Pray that all of these clubs would grow in strength and numbers and in the godly influence they have at their schools.

In the fellowship of our Lord,
Robert Burkley

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.   --Mark 10:14-16
