PRAISE REPORTS

GlenView2009.11.12

PRAISE the Lord for a special program on Thursday at the Glenview School Good News Club in Escondido (photo above). "Children in Action" presented the gospel through music and mime!

PRAISE God for the first meeting of the season of the GNC at Willow Grove School (Poway district) this past Tuesday (photo above). Leader Dee Abell reports: " We had a lot of new faces and some returning kids -- a  turnout of 32 kids and 8 or 10 parents. Keep them in prayer to return when school resumes Dec. 1 after conferences and Thanksgiving. PLEASE KEEP US IN PRAYER -- WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS! Parent Praises: One mom said, 'Is this what you did last year? Wow we missed out!'  Another said, 'My son just had to come again!' (Her son received Jesus last year at the club!) Another said, 'Thanks for doing this!' And I have one new mom, Jaime Lew, who wishes to come on board to pray." Jaime emails:

I'm so thankful that God opened the door for GNCs to enter public schools! Praise the Lord! This past Tuesday I watched Dee teach the children as they worshiped God with praise songs and learned a Bible verse and God's Word. At the end, all of them had an opportunity to receive Jesus Christ. It's like bringing Sunday school to public school children where they are. When we do this, we know that we are bringing light into darkness.

I saw in these little faces the hunger to learn about God and His Word. Most of them pay attention and follow what is taught. Some have interesting questions and are eager to seek answers. It's amazing to notice their high level of interest after a long day of school! Dee really needs more helpers to open more GNCs in other schools.

It's incredible for me to witness that God and His Word and prayers are allowed in public school after school hours! For so long I heard that the Bible and prayers are not allowed in our public schools. I think many other moms like me do not know about GNC. It is such an effective way to minister to Christian children and bring their friends or non-believing children to Christ. I will help to spread the word around to other moms. It's my prayer that the Lord will open a GNC in every public school in our country. The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest (Matthew 9:37-38).

Please join Jaime in praying for GNCs and also in spreading the word! Copy and forward this link to those who might be interested in praying or volunteering:

PRAYER NEEDS

SolanaSantaFe

PRAY for "a light that shines in a dark place" -- our new Good News Club which started Nov. 5 at Solana Santa Fe School in Rancho Santa Fe (photos above and below). The club has started small (the principal advised us they've never had success drawing kids to after-school activities in this very affluent community). Opposition has surfaced from teachers and a parent (who called to ask what our teaching would be regarding "same-sex marriage" and said she would NOT be sending her children). Club leader Misty Thompson emails: "Our club doubled in size in one week. We had 4 kids the first week (the week after the announcement didn't go out from the school) and 8 kids the following week. Yea!  Debera from Horizon (the church nearby that is sponsoring the club) did an amazing job in delivering the message to some extremely inquisitive older boys.

"A coalition of opposition is developing among some teachers. I saw several gathering in the hallway during our meeting and knew it wasn't good when one of them closed the door. Then they sent in their spokesperson to confront the teacher hosting us in her classroom, a strong Christian and warrior for the Lord! She is really being persecuted for supporting the GNC and I would like to ask for prayers for her specifically as well as for the club overall.

"But ending with a PRAISE report: Our club was moved out of the auditorium, but in the end it was a blessing to meet in the teacher's classroom because we started with a snack outside which attracted a LOT of attention from students passing by. Several kids who wanted a snack took a flyer instead. We didn't have that kind of visibility in the auditorium. Please continue to keep our club in your prayers. If we grow slowly, at least we're growing."

Sunset Hills School

PRAY
for the new GNC that started on Friday at Sunset Hills School in the Poway district. This is the school that offers no means of distributing announcements to parents. Leader Dee Abell emails: "We had only 4 kids show up for the club today -- it sure makes a world of difference when the kids take home flyers. I will have to go out again in a couple of weeks to spread the news and have Moms In Touch get the word out via email." Even with the low attendance, two kids responded to the gospel message. Please pray that the Lord would help this club to get the word out and that those who know about it will tell others.

PRAY
also for the very low attendance at our Bear Valley Middle School GNC which meets on Mondays. Poor turnout at the middle school level has been a perennial challenge. Please pray for creative ideas from the Lord for helping to get the word out to kids and that He would by the power of His Spirit work in their hearts to draw them to the club.

PRAY
for the GNC starting this Wednesday, Nov. 18, 3:00-4:00pm at Solana Pacific School. This school is unique -- it's all 5th and 6th graders. Pray for Pastor Mike Williams and his team from Horizon Christian Fellowship as they prepare to bring God's love and truth to a school which hasn't had a club for a couple of seasons. The announcement of the club is only issued electronically, so please pray that parents will get word of the club and respond positively! Pray that students will be interested and that the Lord would draw a big opening day group of kids, including many who don't know of the Savior. Pray that God's living Word would go out in power and that it would accomplish His purpose in each heart!

In the fellowship of our Lord,
Robert Burkley

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.   --Mark 10:14-16
