TEACHERS FORUM: This week! - January 16 & 18

Jesus calling disciples

Jesus called twelve men to leave their old lives and follow Him as disciples. Kids today need to know that Jesus is still calling people to follow Him and that girls and boys can be disciples, too! At our Teachers Forum sessions this week we'll be studying the lesson series "Life of Christ, part 1" and learning how to introduce children to Jesus as their Savior and help start them on the path to committed, lifelong discipleship.

If you are a Good News Club
® volunteer (or thinking about becoming one), please make time to be there 9:00-11:30am, Jan 16 in Escondido or Jan 18 in Carlsbad. (Child care for school-age kids will be provided Jan 18.) For further details, please click here: http://cefkids.com/TeachersForum. (For more info on this lesson series, please click here and scroll down: http://cefkids.com/lessons.)

PRAISE REPORTS

Turtleback School Terrapin

PRAISE
the Lord that approval has finally been granted for our Good News Club at Turtleback School in the Poway district! The principal sent out an email to teachers, one of whom volunteered use of her room for right after school. The principal also approved distribution of our paper announcements to all students, even though paper flyers are being phased out. She also said she'd be happy to post our announcement on the school website. The club is scheduled to start Jan 19 -- please be in prayer for the team of new volunteers as they get ready.

PRAISE
God for brand new GNC volunteers and for veteran ones who keep spreading the word! This week a man contacted us to say he is interested in becoming a volunteer. He found out about GNCs in the schools through an email sent out by Dee Abell, our team leader at the Willow Grove and Sunset Hills clubs. He responded to the 5th email Dee sent! Says Dee: "I usually tell people that if they are not interested now, perhaps later, or by passing it on they may be answering prayer for someone who is asking where God is leading them to serve. Persistence is the key. I want to encourage people to keep passing that email around, and asking them to forward it. Keep doing it. All I can say is keep passing it on and on and on with a prayer attached that all would read and see and hear and do. I use it over and over and add a new message each time. It will come back somehow -- if not to you, to some CEF chapter somewhere in the world as God wills it."

Reidy Creek School

PRAISE
the Lord for a message from Nancee Hanson, team member at the Reidy Creek School GNC in Escondido (photo above): "Our transition from Judy Erickson’s leadership to Stephanie Glanz's was seamless. Judy led us well over the past year and a half, and prepared us for her leaving. We have a great team: Mrs. Glanz, Walt Brame, Rosie Gamboa (and me). I thank God for each one and for Judy’s love and dedication to GNC."

PRAYER NEEDS

PRAY
for the two new Good News Clubs starting on the La Jolla and Rincon Indian reservations (photos below) under the leadership of CEF missionary Susan Curo. Volunteer Christina Dillane sends a report: "2010 marks the 7th anniversary of our 'Light Rally' when we began praying for our local tribes. Members of the Rincon band of Indians joined us then to pray that the light of Christ might shine out to all of SD County, including its 18 Indian reservations.

"While the public schools have enjoyed GNC's for several years now, this will be the first for native boys and girls in their own Tribal Halls!

"Last Thursday we walked into the Tribal Hall for the first time on the Rincon Reservation, with joy and peace, to come alongside those taking care of the children in the after-school program. The opening date of their first GNC is Thursday, Jan 14, 3:30-4:30 pm. Praise God for the first volunteers that have joined the team -- please pray for 3 more to complete it. Eager faces peered into the windows as we prepared the room arrangements and club schedule for the following week.

"The La Jolla band of Indians are set to start next in their hall on Tuesday, Jan 19, 4:00-5:00 pm. They are in need of several volunteers as well. Pray with us as we rejoice in all of God's provisions and move ahead into new territory where children have been praying for their very own clubs! For more information call Christina Dillane 760-489-5811."

PRAY
for two after-school Good News Clubs starting this week:

Rock Springs School

Rock Springs School (Escondido), starts Tuesday, Jan 12, 2:25-3:25pm.

Capri School

Capri School (Encinitas), starts Friday, Jan 15, 12:50-2:00pm.

Please pray that the Lord would shower His blessings on these clubs as they seek to reach so many hundreds of kids with the Good News of Jesus. Pray that every volunteer would receive encouragement and strength from God as they prepare for opening day. Pray that kids would show up in droves to receive good things from the Lord! Pray that God's grace would change hearts as His Word is taught.

PRAY
for the GNC at El Camino Creek School in the Encinitas district as the team reorganizes and plans for a second session, hopefully to start in February. Please ask for the Lord's guidance for the team and that He would direct the needed volunteers their way! Pray for God's protection over this club which has faced discouragement and persecution from some vocal parents who are opposed to its presence on campus. Pray that the Lord in His power would use this club to make a real difference in many kids' lives!

In the fellowship of our Lord,
Robert Burkley

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.   --Mark 10:14-16
