REPORTS

PRAISE the Lord for the first meeting ever of Good News Club® at Capri School in
Encinitas on Friday! This club has had a lot of loving
preparation from the enthusiastic team of volunteers, mostly
parents from the school -- above, from left, Sian, Michelle, Amy,
Carlos, Stacy, Andy, Cathie, and Danielle.Stay tuned for an
update next week.

PRAISE God for new friends at Good News Club! At the first
meeting of the season of our Rock Springs School club in
Escondido on Tuesday, two girls who got acquainted during the
"Getting to Know You" opening game are already pals.
As soon as the final bell rings, it's line up to sign up in the Multi-Purpose Room. There were a lot of kids returning from last year!
Then everybody gathers 'round for games, songs, and a time of learning about Jesus from God's Word. Above, team member Susie Covert leads the Bible review game, and lots of kids seem to know the answers! Forty-four boys and girls were there on opening day, and nineteen responded to the Gospel message.
Others on the team (above) are Marilyn & Benjamin Burkley (& photographer Robert Burkley), Leroy Wentz and Charlene Poore-Jones. In front is club member Cassandra (who brought her grandma Charlene along).

PRAISE the Lord for our Escondido Teachers Forum on Saturday.
Twenty-three stalwart Good News Club volunteers, including
several brand new ones, and representing clubs from Rincon
Reservation to Oceanside, came together to get ready to teach the
"Life of Christ, part 1" series of Bible lessons. Everyone
brought ideas to share or praises for how the Lord is at work in
their clubs -- and the brownie break in the middle was a good
time to just fellowship and schmooze a bit.

PRAISE God for our new "Teen Good News Club" at
Mission Middle School in Escondido which started in December and
is led by two teachers at the school, Linda Nelson, in whose
classroom the club is held, and Steve Bruecker (photo above).
The kids are intently involved in a craft project, above. Below, it's game time in the open air (Steve teaches PE!). The kids have been exploring God's Word each week, starting with the lesson series "The World" which begins at the beginning with God as Creator. Linda emails how the Lord has been blessing: "We are having such a wonderful time of learning and questioning. These wonderful children really want to know the love of God."
PRAISE the Lord for all He is doing at
the Glen View School GNC in Escondido. Team leader Judy
Erickson reports that God has been changing the hearts of two
boys who are friends and whose behavior had been a real
challenge. One responded to the Gospel invitation recently, and
both have asked for prayer, one because "his grandparents
are sick, and the other because his family needs more money. How
incredible the difference in these two boys." Judy also asks
for prayer that one of their valued team members, who is faced
with a heavy schedule and health issues in his family, will be
able to continue and lend his fatherly guidance, especially to
the "problem" boys in the club.
PRAYER
NEEDS
![]()
PRAY for the Mission Estancia School GNC in the
Encinitas district as they seek to rebuild their volunteer team
to be able to hold a second session to start in February. Team
leader Tamara Reed asks for prayer for 5 more committed moms to
respond to an email appeal for help going out this week.
PRAY for two GNCs starting this week:
Turtleback School (Poway district), starts Tuesday, Jan 19, 2:40-3:40pm. (See our announcement posted by the principal on the school website:http://www.powayusd.com/pusdtbkes/enrichment.shtml) Please pray that this brand new team of volunteers will have the Lord's peace and strength as they prepare. Pray that starting Tuesday God will do great things at this school through GNC.
Mission Meadows School (Vista district), starts Wednesday, Jan 20, 3:00-4:00pm. Pray that lots of kids will be back from last season, and for many new faces as well! Pray that the team will serve in the power of God's Spirit and that kids will understand and receive the Good News.
PRAY as the Bonsall school board meets this week and
considers our request for a waiver of fees for our GNC starting
at Bonsall Elementary on Jan 28. Please pray that all charges
would be rescinded.
PRAY for a need from Dee Abell, team
leader at the Sunset Hills School GNC (Poway district)
which has been struggling to get the word out about the club at a
school which provides no means to do so: "Thanks so much for
prayers. We had 12 kids, 4 parents at the GNC today! Two new kids
received Jesus for the first time." Dee asks for prayer for
"two faithful boys that have been coming for several weeks
-- their mother stayed for the whole lesson. The two boys are
more than a handful! At the end the mother apologized, but to
assure her, I told her, 'yes they are busy, but they are still
learning.' Keep us continually in prayer."
In the
fellowship of our Lord,
Robert Burkley

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them. --Mark 10:14-16
