Hear Bob
Vernon: "Why Reaching Children Is So
Strategic"
Join us on the beautiful
campus of Horizon Christian Fellowship in Rancho Santa Fe
as Bob Vernon, retired LA Assistant Chief of Police, shares how he
met the Lord as a
boy at Good News Club®, and why it's so vital that we mobilize the
Christian community
to bring GNCs™ to the kids at every public school -- while the
doors remain open.
You (and those you bring!) will be informed, encouraged, and
inspired.

PRAISE
REPORTS
![]()
PRAISE God for Good News Club kids who are hiding God's
Word in their hearts week by week. Like this diligent 4th grader
at the Rock Springs club in Escondido, who has been
faithfully coloring his "verse tokens" and collecting
them in his album -- the rubber stamp on each one shows that he
has learned that verse by heart. Every child who learns three or
more by the end of the six-lesson series will get a special prize
bag.
PRAISE the Lord for answering prayer that we requested
last week for needed helpers at the GNC at Turtleback School
(Poway district). A homeschool mom is joining the team and
another is interested in finding out more. Please keep praying
for a full team.

PRAISE the Lord for a report from our
GNC at Mission Meadows School (Vista district) which
started for the season on Jan 20 with 35 kids in attendance. Team
leader Maureen Slottje writes after their second meeting,
"We had 20 new students in club and God surprised us
with two new volunteers, both of whom were observers last
week! We had 4 new responses to the gospel as well. Thank
you for praying." In the photo above volunteer Debbie
Christian is helping the kids learn the memory verse with a fun
activity that requires considerable agility! Below, Cindy Havre
doesn't neglect the important matter of cookies on the way out.

PRAISE the Lord for all the kids (only He knows the
number!) who have become His children at Good News Club over the
years. Lisa McCament (above, with 2 of her 8 grandchildren), who
is a new GNC volunteer with our Tribal Ministry on the Rincon
Reservation, emails, "When I was 7 I went to a Good News
Club in Poway where I lived with my mom and sister (my dad had
died). The GNC teacher had us memorize Isaiah 53:6, and I
realized I was a sinner and needed Jesus to forgive my sins. I
asked Him into my heart and He has never left me, even though I
left Him for a time."

PRAISE God for the report from team leader Kim Vermeulen
about our brand new club in Ramona, which started this past
Wednesday: "Hi! I just wanted to
give you an update on our first day at Ramona Community School.
What a great turnout we had -- 18 kids! I think we were all
pleasantly surprised. The majority of the kids are in 1st, 2nd,
and 3rd grades, a couple in 4th and 5th. It went well and we were
able to figure out quickly some small changes we need to make, so
I am very optimistic and encouraged. I will stay in touch!
Thanks for your support!"

PRAISE the Lord for answers to prayer at our GNC at LR
Green School in Escondido. Leader Teri Chalfant writes,
"First I want to praise the LORD for His provision of a few
more volunteers -- one is on loan, one comes as a response to a
blurb in our church bulletin and the other by word of mouth from
the Bible study group of one of our leaders -- 'Thank you LORD
for all you do.'
"Another praise -- we have had more new children come join
us these last two weeks.
"And yet another praise -- this one is just great! My
daughter was listening to a secular radio station that was
interviewing young children. They were asked what their favorite
day of the week was. One little boy said Tuesday because that is
when he goes to Good News Club! The announcer said he didn't know
what GNC was, but he thought it was great because the boy liked
it!"
PRAISE God for the good things happening at the Ada Harris School GNC in Cardiff. Leader Carrie Patch sends word: "Kids have been asking a lot of great questions lately. They are curious about the things of God! Allowing time to let kids ask questions, even when they don't necessarily pertain to the lesson, has proven to be a very good thing! Prayer request: Continued spiritual growth in the children."
PRAYER
NEEDS
![]()
PRAY that we could see a Good News
Club, even a short one, this season at Pioneer School in
Escondido (above). We've had a big club there in past years, so
it all depends on getting the team of volunteers. Holly Williams,
our leader at Farr Ave. School, is trying to round them up:
"I have come close to getting a few people to help with
Pioneer, but then it ends up not working out. Please keep praying
for workers so I can get in at least 6 weeks before I have to
stop for the year." If you might be able to help one
hour once a week, please let us know at 760-480-4191. The kids
are waiting!
PRAY that the Lord would encourage kids
who have been absent to return to GNCs. Holly Williams shares
that request for the club at Farr Ave. School in
Escondido, as well as some words of praise: "Please
pray that we will get back so many kids that have missed, that
were attending faithfully but are not now -- we have had an
increase in attendance to 23 children. One girl brought us a
present she made for us teachers, a wooden cross with letters
painted and glued on that say 'GOD loves U' -- and it stands by
itself. That was an encouragement to us!"
PRAY for our planned GNC at Central
School in Escondido. We haven't had a club there for several
years, but this week we submitted our application to start March
2. Please pray that the new principal will sign off on it and
that we'll be assigned a good room with lots of open space.
In the fellowship of our Lord,
Robert Burkley

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them. --Mark 10:14-16
