TEACHERS
FORUM this week -- March 13 & 15

When Jairus came begging Jesus to help his
dying daughter, the Master started to his house right away. But
on the way, when word came that the little girl had died, the
situation seemed hopeless. Jesus reassured Jairus, "Do
not be afraid, only believe." Those
gathered at the house instead ridiculed Him when He said, "The
child is not dead, but sleeping." But after Jesus
had taken her by the hand and spoken to her, she arose and walked
"and they were overcome with great amazement."
Kids need to know that Jesus is the true and living, all-powerful
God who brings hope to hopeless situations, including forgiveness
to our hopeless state as sinners. All Good News Club volunteers
should make plans to be at our Teachers Forum March 13 in
Escondido or March 15 in Carlsbad (both from
9:00-11:30am) as we get ready to teach our final lesson series, Life
of Christ, part 2. (Details: http://cefkids.com/TeachersForum. For more info on these lessons, click and scroll

PRAISE
REPORTS

PRAISE the Lord for a truly blessed
time together at our "Breakfast with Bob Vernon" on
Saturday. Twenty-four Good News Club teams were represented, and
lots of friends of CEF, some old and many brand new, traveled to
Horizon Christian Fellowship in Rancho Santa Fe to rejoice in all
that the Lord has been doing through the ministry. Below, after
filling up on all the good things to eat, everybody scrambled to
find the other three of their species (from locusts to lions) in
the "Animals of the Bible" get-acquainted game.
Then everyone reassembled to hear Bob Vernon (above) inspire and
challenge with a message from 2 Tim. 3:16. As someone who came to
faith in Christ as a boy at a Good News Club, joined the LAPD as
a young man and rose to Assistant Chief, then went on to found a
worldwide institute for training in character-based leadership,
Bob brought a lifetime of personal experience to bear on his
topic, "Why Reaching Children Is So Strategic." With
humor, insight, and riveting anecdotes, Bob encouraged all Good
News Club volunteers to keep going in their service to the Lord
and gave a renewed sense of the importance and urgency of
reaching the kids while we can.

PRAISE God that after a three-year hiatus Good News Club has
returned to the location of Escondido's original and oldest
school, Central Elementary. Then and now: The photo
above is of Central today; below is an early class picture from
the 1920s on display in the office.

Right after the final bell on opening day on Tuesday, kids
and parents began arriving to enroll at the door with club
registrar Marilyn Burkley. Inside, 36 admirably attentive boys
and girls (including lots of 4th graders!) learned a Scripture
verse (Mt. 1:21), heard from God's Word about letting God guide
your life (the first step being to trust in Jesus to save you
from sin), then played a fun review game (below). Everyone who
gave a right answer got three tries at tossing the ball into the
box for an extra 1000 points each. Team members Leroy Wentz and
Charlene Poore-Jones led.

PRAISE God for new growth at our "Teen GNC" at Bear
Valley Middle School in Escondido. Volunteer Judy Erickson
writes regarding the challenge of reaching this age group,
"The club had dwindled to nothing. BUT yesterday (March 1),
four NEW kids -- three boys and a girl, including a couple of
twins, came and we had a sweet time. What an encouragement! Our
public school teacher host agreed to help us from now on."
PRAISE the Lord for His grace at the GNC on the La
Jolla Indian Reservation in Pauma Valley. Tribal Ministry
leader Susan Curo writes, "It is amazing to see a child
understand the gospel and receive our Savior as their own. A
little boy came to know the Lord this past week and I am so
excited -- thank you all for praying for our kids. Please pray
for our other reservation children to 'want to' be involved in
our Good News Club -- the parents pretty much let the child
decide if they want to come or not. Please also pray for the
Rincon tribe and the future club there as well."

PRAISE the Lord that GNC kids are learning
how to reach out to their friends! From the club at Casita
Center School in the Vista district, leader Linda Gonzalez
reports: "It was a joy and a blessing seeing the children
practice being missionaries by sharing the gospel with each other
after making their witnessing bracelets. They used gospel
bookmarks with corresponding colors on each step as their guide.
Some of the boys read the passages from their own New Testaments!
Please pray that they will have the courage to share Jesus with
others and that God will bless His Word when they do."

PRAISE God that kids at
the El Camino Creek GNC in the Encinitas district are
putting their faith into action! Leader Susan Daughters sends a
photo (above) of some boys and girls at the club who
decorated pillowcases for the homeless. They've also helped
decorate boxes to collect food for military veterans.

PRAISE the Lord for good things going on at the GNC at Capri
School in Encinitas (above), sent in by two on the team:
Michelle Vick: "We are growing, which is awesome. We are
averaging about 50 students now. In fact the older kids are
inviting their friends and that group is expanding. Great to
see."
Sian Welch: "We have just finished our first session of
Beginnings and now moving on to the Life Of Christ. We have been
blessed to see new registrations each week and our club is almost
growing out of our classroom. Our Bible story leader Ryan
Pfeiffer has been so wonderful, engaging the children in the
lesson story each week. It is such an amazing thing to witness,
children learning and growing in their faith on a public school
campus...praise the Lord, He is so good, and we as leaders are
blessed to be His servants."
PRAYER
NEEDS
![]()
PRAY as we submit an application for a brand new Good News
Club at Nichols School in Oceanside. This is an answer to
prayer -- we asked you to pray that a mom from the school would
find the needed volunteers, and the Lord has brought together a
full team of six! Please pray that we would get quick approval
and a really good room to meet in. Pray for these fledgling
volunteers as they plan and prepare.
PRAY about the denial of our applications at Lake
School in the Vista District and also at Ramona Elementary.
At Lake the principal has agreed to ask if any teacher will
volunteer her/his classroom for the club -- please pray for a
positive response (we're supposed to hear back on Monday). At RE
please pray that the district will overrule the denial and for
wisdom on how to proceed. Please pray that both these clubs will
be approved soon so the kids can hear God's Word this school
year!

PRAY for our club-in-development for Orange Glen School
in Escondido (above). Volunteer Anna Vargas, who plans to lead
the club, has been helping at Glen View School until a
full team is ready to go for OG. Please pray the Lord will call
forth helpers so that the club can start this season, and that He
will provide a replacement for her at Glen View.
In the fellowship of our Lord,
Robert Burkley

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them. --Mark 10:14-16
