PRAISE REPORTS

51

PRAISE the Lord for His amazing grace in bringing about a record 51 Good News Clubs approved so far in North County public schools in the current school year! We will have reached one-third of all elementary schools this season. And there is one more club (see "Prayer Needs" below) imminently awaiting approval to make 52 in all. God has been answering lots of prayers this week for several clubs long in the planning stages:

Lincoln School

At Lincoln School in Escondido (above) a team had come together after some long but unavoidable delays and reached consensus to hold the club on Tuesdays. We submitted our application this week, but the principal said that because of the after-school "academic intervention" program, the only day open would be Thursdays. After some schedule-juggling on the part of the volunteers, we were able to switch to Thursdays, and received approval later that same day! Please pray for these servants (including several homeschool teens) as they prepare to start on April 22.

Orange Glen School

At Orange Glen School in Escondido (above), team leader Anna Vargas has been patiently pursuing the call the Lord placed on her last fall to reach the kids at her neighborhood school for Him. She's been serving on the Glen View team all season, learning how it's done, and now the Lord has brought His will to pass in His timing. Anna's mother will be serving on the team, and a mom from the school emailed this week to volunteer after hearing of the club at church. A retired teacher from the school also wants to help. We sent in the application on Wednesday and received approval over the phone from the principal on Thursday. He said that when he had served as assistant principal at Oak Hill School he had heard such good things about GNC™ from kids and parents alike. Anna's email response: "Praise God -- He moves fast!"  The principal said he would call on Friday with our room assignment. We'd requested the big multi-purpose room as first choice, but he said that was impossible -- it has always been reserved for staff meetings on Thursdays. When he called on Friday it was to say that he had decided to give us the multi-purpose room after all!  Anna wrote: "This is getting more exciting each day. We can use the MPR -- I did read that correctly, right?" Please pray for the team, the kids, the families, and the staff of Orange Glen as the club gets ready to start on April 22.

Olive School

When we asked you months ago to be in prayer for Olive School in Vista, where teacher April Sparks saw the great need to reach the kids in the name of Jesus, we included a photo of the sign out front with "WE NEED A GOOD NEWS CLUB!" emblazoned across it. Now the Lord has replaced  "NEED" with "HAVE" -- the club is ready to go and was approved by the principal on Friday! Please be in prayer as April, who will be leading the club in her own classroom, makes plans to begin April 21.

PRAISE the Lord that the Ramona Journal, a monthly news magazine, will be publishing an article in the April issue about all the Good News Clubs that are happening in Ramona schools and across North County. Pick up a copy if you can, and we're hoping to link to the article as soon as it becomes available on their website.

PRAYER NEEDS

PRAY for a new Good News Club in the works for Twin Oaks School in San Marcos (above). Karen Ives, a teacher at the school, learned about GNCs from her friend Vicky St. Onge who serves on the team at Richland School. Vicky brought her by our booth at the Escondido Street Faire last October to find out more. Ever since then she has been praying and working on getting the word out and scouting for a team. On Friday she called to say she now has a team of six volunteers, asking if there was still time to get a club going! We rushed the application that day by email, and are awaiting word. The principal at the school was previously at Knob Hill, where he approved our club last year. Please be in prayer that we will get approval this week (school is still in session through Wednesday) and also be able to get the flyers approved before the vacation. The club plans to launch April 23.

In the fellowship of our Lord,
Robert Burkley

..."Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it." And He took them up in His arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them.   --Mark 10:14-16
